Vote now on topics for scientific programme for WCE2014

30 May 2012

Dear Colleagues,

This is an invitation to YOU to help us shape the scientific programme for the 12th World Congress on Endometriosis (WCE2014), which takes place in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on 30 April to 3 May 2014.

As you know: the World Congress on Endometriosis is largely based on findings presented by yourselves.

This characteristic, introduced by Hans Evers in 2005 in Maastricht, renders our meeting particularly engaging, a vital event that reflects current efforts in both basic as well as clinical research. In our congresses you have the opportunity to listen not only to the usual “experts’ opinions”, but mainly to lively sessions with fresh observations and new proposals. We are committed to supporting young researchers and prefer to limit the stylish and formally unexceptionable exhibitions of renowned and authoritative key opinion leaders, in favour of maybe less skilled but decidedly livelier presentations by new minds carrying new ideas and widening our scientific horizon.

The WES Board has decided to advance this model one step forward, inviting WES members and WCE2011 attendees to select the topics for the next world congress.

In other words, YOU will be able to shape the 12th World Congress on Endometriosis!

The main objective of this decision was to select those topics which it is felt by our scientific community cover the most important unanswered pathogenic questions and open clinical problems. Asking you to select the issues to be addressed, we are convinced we will be able to offer the best possible connection between science and real everyday needs, and build the best scientific programme ever.

The second aim was defining with you the issues to be covered in great advance of the congress, in order to offer you the opportunity to design studies specifically on the selected topics, having enough time to obtain the results to be presented in Sao Paulo.

In other words, on the one hand you may shape the meeting based on the issues that you believe it is most important to address or which reflect your current research; on the other hand, once you know the definitive structure of the congress, you will have the time to start your studies focused at those topics that will be covered during the meeting.

Based on the feedback received after WCE2011 we have compiled a list of proposed topics and cordially invite you to select the top FIVE topics that you feel should be on the agenda when we all will meet again in Sao Paulo. Those topics that receive most votes will be included in the scientific programme of WCE2014.

The deadline for voting is 23 June 2012. We will publish the results on our website and in the WES eJournal by early July.

Let’s make the road to Sao Paulo together, catch this unique opportunity, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge on endometriosis. Now, more then ever, the World Congress on Endometriosis is YOUR congress!

Cordially,

Paolo Vercellini
